Our Work

United Way fights for the health, education and financial stability of every person in Etowah County. We win by living United. By forging unlikely partnerships. By finding new solutions to old problems. By mobilizing the best resources. And by inspiring individuals to join the fight against our community’s most daunting social crises. We are more than fundraisers. We are hand-raisers. Gamechangers. When we Live United, we take on challenges and tackle problems in our community. Problems others shy away from.

These areas are our focus!

EDUCATION

A good education is essential for the future success of our children.  Helping children achieve their potential prepares them for life and produces independent, successful adults.

FINANCIAL STABILITY

A quality education leads to a stable job that creates enough income to support a family through retirement.  Every family needs enough income to pay for the necessities and provide a stable home.

HEALTH

Health is important to all of us and factors into every aspect of our lives.  Adults and children who are in good mental and physical health are productive at work and school, and are more likely to give back to their community.

SAFETY NET

United Way understands when families find themselves in crisis due to job loss, health issues, or even disasters, they need safety net programs to lean on.  That's why United Way continues to support programs that offer assistance with food and clothing, as well as emergency assistance with medication and utilities.

These are our in-house programs!

ASSETS FOR INDEPENDENCE

This is about promoting asset-building tools and strategies in order to enable low-income families to save, build assets, and enter the financial mainstream.

EMERGENCY FOOD & SHELTER PROGRAM

This is for supplementing and expanding the work of local social service agencies, both nonprofit and governmental, in an effort to help people with economic (not disaster-related) emergencies.

LONG-TERM RECOVERY

This initiative is about bringing the community together to rebuild lives after disaster.

STUDENT SUCCESS

This is our newly transformed group that was rebranded from Success By 6. It now contains the former program under its umbrella, which has allowed Student Success to be able to impact students of all ages without an age cap. This division is still running strong, and it seeks to ensure all children who enter first grade will be ready to learn and thrive. We do this through many Kindergarten preparedness offerings such as Kinder Camp, our custom readiness calendars, and Kindergarten, Here I Come. In addition, we are a provider through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and the Freebie Reads programs which benefit pre-school children through supplying books across Etowah County. This is all funded mostly through the Girlfriend Gala, which is a fundraising event that pays for children's literacy through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
