Inspiring Growth Now In Transformational Education

IGNITE embodies the commitment of United Way of Etowah County by helping children and youth achieve their potential by providing after-school tutoring and mentoring programs through Gadsden City Schools, improving early learning opportunities and helping our children move from high school to college and the working world. This program provides a reading room, computer lab and tutoring room for children.

What is IGNITE?

IGINTE offers after school tutoring that helps students with their reading achievement. Students also have access to the computer lab and tutoring in other subjects.

Who is this for?

Tutoring is provided for all age groups. Our focus for reading is proficiency by 3rd grade.

Why focus on reading?

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, in 2019 only 28% of 4th graders performed at or above their reading proficiencies. This means 72% of 4th graders were already behind in their ability to read. We know that by introducing this program, students will increase their overall scores in the classroom and become proficient in the age group for reading.

Where is this located?

We tutor in the Sixth Street community.

When is this offered?

This occurs each weekday, Monday through Friday, after school hours.

How much does it cost?

IGNITE is free to all that attend.
