Equity
Equity refers to the processes and policies that create and support access, opportunity, and advancement for all people. Equity focuses on what is fair and just, recognizing that advantages and barriers exist, and that, as a result, we all don’t start from the same place. Equity is the implementation of inclusion and belonging.
Diversity
Diversity encompasses all the ways that people differ, including the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies. ²
Inclusion
Inclusion is an outcome to ensure those who are diverse feel and are welcomed, respected, supported, and valued to fully participate. An inclusive environment ensures equitable access to resources and opportunities. Inclusion means that the ideas, beliefs, perspectives, and backgrounds of different people are respectfully integrated into existing structures and practices.
Belonging
Belonging means that people feel safe, comfortable with authenticity, welcomed, accepted, and valued for who they are.
