Our Work

A good education is essential for the future success of our children.  Helping children achieve their potential prepares them for life and produces independent, successful adults.

A quality education leads to a stable job that creates enough income to support a family through retirement.  Every family needs enough income to pay for the necessities and provide a stable home.

Health is important to all of us and factors into every aspect of our lives.  Adults and children who are in good mental and physical health are productive at work and school, and are more likely to give back to their community.

United Way understands when families find themselves in crisis due to job loss, health issues, or even disasters, they need safety net programs to lean on.  That's why United Way continues to support programs that offer assistance with food and clothing, as well as emergency assistance with medication and utilities.

United Way fights for the health, education and financial stability of every person in Etowah County. We win by living United. By forging unlikely partnerships. By finding new solutions to old problems. By mobilizing the best resources. And by inspiring individuals to join the fight against our community’s most daunting social crises. We are more than fundraisers. We are hand-raisers. Gamechangers. When we Live United, we take on challenges and tackle problems in our community. Problems others shy away from.

Assets for Independence
Promotes asset-building tools and strategies such as Individual Development Accounts, a tool to enable low-income families to save, build assets, and enter the financial mainstream.

Long-Term Recovery is bringing the community together to rebuild lives after disaster.

Success By 6 is a United Way initiative that seeks to ensure all children who enter first grade will be ready to learn and thrive. We do this through Kindergarten readiness programs such as Kinder Camp, Kindergarten, Here I Come, and Kindergarten readiness calendars. Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and Freebie Reads reading and home programs also benefit  preschool children.

Girlfriend Gala is a fundraising event which pays for children's literacy through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
